Clothing Racks 3, My Back 0

You’ve heard the expression, “take one for the team”?

Well, today I was at Wal-Mart, picking up clothing racks (literally, I was PICKING up clothing racks) and I guess I lifted with my back and not my knees and OOPs.  It’s not that bad, but I did decide to skip the gym since my back and my wrists were hurting.  Did I mention I carried three racks (in boxes) all the way through Wal-Mart?

I ordered a GREAT printer yesterday night and I can’t wait to hook it up and get everything set up.

If you didn’t know, LaMaLu Boutique has a facebook page now! I’ll be posting some items that I’m really excited about so check it out.

What I am most excited about, is that I placed my FIRST order tonight.  I ordered a bunch of cute necklaces, earrings and bracelets and I cannot wait to show y’all.  Let me tell you though, picking out only a few things instead of everything is REALLY hard.

I’ll be back sometime soon for another update.  We’re getting closer to launch and I am so excited!

LaMaLu Progress – a Website and a Bank Account

I’ve been pretty busy around here getting things set up for a *fingers crossed* June 1st launch.

Last week, I got completed a huge accomplishment and opened a bank account for LaMaLu – that way I can differentiate my money from the boutiques. I ended up going with Bank of America because I am very familiar with them and I’m so glad that I did! They were so helpful and reassuring (and they seemed to have everything together to help small businesses like mine) – multiple employees congratulated me when I used my card for the first time – I guess my excitement was obvious.

So with the bank account out of the way, I was able to finally deposit my loan checks and get the ball rolling with everything else that I need. Thanks to an AMAZING Groupon deal, I was able to order stickers and notepads from VistaPrint for LaMaLu Boutique for a great price.  I have to say though, 48HourPrint has WAY better prices overall though.  I’ll make sure to show you the stickers when they come – the notepads I’m keeping for a surprise for my future shoppers.

What I am MOST excited about, is the website.  That’s right! I started putting the website together.  I decided to go with Shopify because based upon my research they were the most detailed and easy to use eCommerce platform that I found.  So far, Shopify has been super easy to use but I haven’t had a chance to add products yet – I’m ordering some clothes this weekend and believe me – I’m REALLY excited.

For now though, I will show you a picture of the website – it’s still under construction though so nothing is final yet.

Let me know what you think  – I can’t wait to launch.

Today I Learned How To Manipulate Images without using Photoshop

Happy weekend y’all! Spring has finally sprung here in NC. The amount of pollen in the air is insane, but since it’s no longer cold, I can’t complain.  Plus, I love yellow (not allergies, though).  Anyways….

After attending Making Things Happen, I asked some of the girls that I met which printers they recommended for shop/ marketing materials like business cards, postcards, stickers and tags and told me about so I checked it out and found that their prices were great (especially compared to what I was looking at spending before) and who doesn’t love to save some money? So with the logo that I just had made, I went to work creating tags for LaMaLu Boutique! (I just love saying it (and by saying it, I mean typing it)).

I figured out exactly what I wanted to get and added it to my cart.  What I really loved about 48HourPrint, was that I could see a proof once I finally uploaded the image – but to upload the image, I had to figure out how to crop the image to 2.25 x 2.25 with 300 dpi (phew). And did I mention that my sweet graphic designer friend is out of town this weekend?  Since I don’t have Photoshop, it turned into quite the feat, I had to find an online photo editor, I ended up using and then because of the width of the image, I decided to divide the logo up and reformat it as such:

LaMaLu Boutique Let me tell you, it was quite the learning experience but I have to say, for free software,, is great.  So long story short: I did it! and the tags should be here next week – I can’t wait to show you.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! I have some more boutique shopping to do.  Let me know what you would like to see in the boutique.

This is my year

Despite various setbacks that I keep hitting.  I am determined to make this my year.  The year I launch the boutique.  Obviously, April 1st isn’t possible – now I’m targeting June 1st.  I have alot to do to get ready for launch but I’m ready.  I just got back from an amazing vacation, I visited Albuquerque New Mexico, Las Vegas Nevada and Aztec New Mexico.  I have to admit, I’m pretty exhausted, but at that same time I’m so renewed.

Making Things Happen last month, really fired me up and inspired me to keep moving along.  One of the things that was stressed at MTH, was social media free weekends.  I’ve been toying (and I actually managed to do it once on a Sunday) with the idea, but never dived in.  I’m ready.  I’m so ready to break my “dependence” on my iPhone. I mean seriously, who wants to be glued to their phone 24/7? Not me!

Question: Do you think you spend too much time using social media?

Close but No Cigar – Boutique Woes

“Close, but no cigar” – does anyone even say that other than my parents?

I feel so close, yet so far to launching the boutique.  There are some things that still need to be worked out, supply wise and legally that are holding me up. I actually found out from my lawyer, that I need to change the name of the boutique.  So I’m working on that now, I have a few ideas, I just need to draft a new logo.

I also attended Making Things Happen this week and it absolutely changed me (I’ll try to have a review of my experience up this week).  I have decided that instead of carrying alot of things in the boutique that I like, I would rather only carry a few things that I absolutely loved.  So I will be hand selecting and only selling things that I love.  I believe that the more that I love my products, the more that you will, too.

After all, Small is the New Big.

Making Things Happen for Yellow Dress Boutique

I’m not quite sure how I found out about Lara Casey and Emily Ley, but I sure am glad that I did.  When I discovered the “Making Things Happen” workshop I knew it was something that I would LOVE to attend in order to get myself in gear with Yellow Dress Boutique and my life in general.  So when it was announced that the 2013 Making Things Happen conference would be held close to Raleigh, in Chapel Hill I was elated.  I knew that it was a sign, so I thought about it and prayed about it and decided to Make. It. Happen. And so I did.

I am pleased to announce, that I will be attending the 2013 “Making Things Happen” intensive which is “an intensive designed to fire you up and get you on a powerful path to making big things happen in life and in business.”

I am so excited to head to Carolina Inn in March to hear what some of the most inspirational ladies (in my opinion) of branding have to say. I can’t wait to see the changes that I’m sure will be in store for Yellow Dress Boutique are going to be.  I’m already feeling so inspired, the minute I submitted my registration, I just felt so… inspired. And ready.  Ready to make things happen.  Ready to do, ready to be – well you get the picture. I am so ready.
